Edit Navigation

Add, reorder, remove, or redirect navigation items without breaking page discovery.

1. Identify the navigation layer

  • Collection tabs: lib/docs-collections.ts
  • Header/global links: lib/site-config.ts
  • Sidebar pages and sections: the nearest meta.json

2. Reorder sidebar pages

content/docs/documentation/meta.json
{
  "pages": [
    "overview",
    "installation",
    "configuration",
    "customization",
    "features",
    "guides",
    "faq",
    "changelog"
  ]
}
lib/site-config.ts
{
  title: "System status",
  href: "https://status.example.com",
  external: true,
}

4. Move a page safely

Move the file, update all meta.json entries and internal links, then add a redirect:

lib/docs-collections.ts
const legacyPages = new Map<string, string>([
  ["/documentation/setup", "/documentation/installation"],
]);

5. Validate

Search the repository for the old route:

rg "/documentation/setup" content app components lib

Then run the build and test desktop tabs, sidebar, mobile drawer, breadcrumbs, and footer pagination.

Warning: Removing an item from meta.json hides it from navigation but may not delete the route. Delete or redirect the content when it should no longer be public.
